TOUR DES STATIONS

Take on Switzerland’s hardest cycling sportive

The Tour des Stations cyclosportive started in 2018, each year it has grown in popularity as one of the best and hardest one day cycling events. The Tour des Stations has ambitions of becoming the “reference of Swiss Grandfondo’s”, it wants to be as big or better than its counterparts.

With different routes to suit all cycling levels, from the leisurely 40km E-Fondo, to the very challenging ‘UltraFondo – The Everest’ at 242km and a whopping 8,848m± of climbing! The parcours crosses through the enchanting countryside of Valais, its mountainous grapevines, picturesque scenery, historic villages and internationally renowned ski stations.

The Tour des Stations is extremely well organised and year upon year they add value to the event by listening to the past participants and acting on the feedback, it’s a credit to the organisers. The feed stations are well stocked, the routes are well signed posted and all volunteers are extremely helpful and motivating – a true example of Swiss efficiency!

Whether it’s on the weekend of the Grandfondo or a recce trip a couple of months before the event, please contact us to discuss your needs. We can seamlessly organise all logistics and aspects of your trip, from your accommodation and food to transport and guiding.

Itinerary – Sunday 1st August to Sunday 8th August

The below suggested rides are just a few examples to whet your appetite. We have many stunning options open to us, some well-known and many not so famous! With a potentially daunting day on the Saturday, some may wish to take it a little easier and taper in style…

Arrive, settle in to your chosen accommodation, set up your bikes (your own or hired), a short but stunning ride to acclimatise and stretch your legs on our beautiful roads and mountains. After the ride we eat, drink and rest… before the first full day.

It only feels right that your first day should be spent exploring and checking out some of the local Cols and climbs on our doorstep that will form part of the Tour des Stations; helping you to envisage what your Tour des Station challenge will entail. Example climbs, Col de Lien, Ovronnaz, Col de la Croix-de-Coeur, etc.

120km, 2,600m climbing – the jewel in the Swiss cycling crown… A cycling loop that includes a 1,700m climb over 30+km, every type of Swiss Alpine scenery (vin yards to high glacier meadows), starting in Swiss France, riding through Swiss Germany, returning to Swiss France and a ski lift to link the loop – a proper cycling adventure! Please see the following link for an article we featured in

This ride includes a number of climbs that have featured in the Tour de France and should have featured in the World Road Race Championship in 2020 (Cancelled due to Covid 19). The Petit Forclaz climb (planned 2020 World road race), Col de la Forclaz (TDF), Col de la Gueulaz (TDF), finishing at the summit of Emosson Dam. The views of Mont Blanc, café and local food are just rewards for a tough day in the saddle – 100km, 2,700m of climbing.
Quiet, smooth, stunning roads, most unknown to none locals, these infamous cycling roads are all world-class. For example, Col de Planches (two sides), Mauvoisin Dam, Lac Derborence (stunning), Col du St Bernard (TDF), La Fouly, Col de Champex Lac (two sides) and many, many more. All can be completed as a short ride with one climb or you can link several together to produce a monumental day.
After five days of fantastic preparation it’s now time to rest and re-charge for the big day. Sunbath in the garden, relax, read or visit some of the fantastic tourist destinations in our area – you choose. We will also go for a short spin to check the bikes one last time and to sign on before a final big feed and an early night.
Big breakfast, ride hard, conquer the Tour des Stations and celebrate well…
A hearty breakfast, a local leg loosening ride (if you are capable!), pack and depart for home.
